So North Eastern Cadre; Cersi 500! happened. Huzzah. This great gathering of Knights was hosted by Waugh Games. And a lovely up and coming venue it is. Nice Hobby store, brilliant service and fab tables.<br />

FINE! BRING IT ON, I ain't afraid of no - Wizard, girly types. In all seriousness though, it was something I looked forward to. I had got N.G into this great hobby and really wanted to see his passion and skills and also to see just what the Doctrine were about and how he would play them as I had not had the pleasure of playing them my self.<br />
<br />
The game was very tactical. He had speed in the guise of hired help from Cordelia (shame on you) and a great selection of boosts protecting his cadre from my brutal fire power.<br />
<br />
In the opening move of the game I went full BRUTAL on him and of loaded a wall of lead the likes of which have never been seen at Delphyne... Oh yeah full on KNIGHT KILL mode. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg0qWNaLqWw3_pKZrlzKIozCdnOTOJTt4pcANNbuxgV-woafeX8rkWC7uPGEMPdEHe7Oc5uHJYTpEhMxM5mTAPul1WsJTTYjj_nqxIjvU6aJg8BEEFV7RbKrsocC4CgMrj4xXC9L5-Mrsh/s1600/leadfarmer.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgg0qWNaLqWw3_pKZrlzKIozCdnOTOJTt4pcANNbuxgV-woafeX8rkWC7uPGEMPdEHe7Oc5uHJYTpEhMxM5mTAPul1WsJTTYjj_nqxIjvU6aJg8BEEFV7RbKrsocC4CgMrj4xXC9L5-Mrsh/s320/leadfarmer.JPG" width="232" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
But it was not to be his defences and boost were too great and died she did not, But I had ripped a serious chunk out of her.<br />
<br />
Now I had placed the Life token on his minions, squishy things and it was something I knew I could probably deal with and shut down but with them lurking in the shodows of a boost I had to get face to face and personal with them. Cue Bretwalda the Diamond back Jet packing and charging straight at them for some axe play.<br />
<br />
In the mean time, Cordelia had flew down the table in an attempt to get to my objectives and meddle with them, This stopped me being able to use Magnus (M-dawg) to get his life token down the board.<br />
<br />
Leaving them both cancelling each other out over objectives as the game went on. It was pretty stalemated, every-time one of us was about to complete our missions the other cancelled it just in time, while in the background Bretwalda and Murder Inc. (Black Dragons and Sophia killed wand waving book worms for sport)<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">KILL!!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
Now..less than 5 minutes to go, Sophia makes a break for it to the nearest objective and infuses it to look got the win my next turn. SKILLZ... Then N.G moves Cordelia up infuses my primary and declares he has got his objective and has a ton of point...WTF...OH dear... I had in typical style got carried away and lost focus, I had known Sophia had to do something to do with an objective...and had...so? But what failed to compute at the time was it had to be on N.Gs main objective..to counter it...but in my lazy sitting position I have blocked my line of sight to it by a massive crystal...Out of sight out of mind they say. Yup i failed my 'smarts' test and had just went for the other token not realizing I had in that moment failed. In the time left I just couldn't not get 5 points to draw let alone more to win. Well done me, well done...<br />

<br />
Well done Ninja Craig!<br />
<br />
So - feeling a little miffed at my own inability to actually think, Ninja Ben did the draw...<br />
<br />
<br />
NO WAY...to follow up being drawn against Ninja Craig he had followed up that gem by drawing me against Ninja Cy and his 'do gooder' Shattered Sword. (FIX!!) Now Cy with his Shattered Sword is like being repeatedly kicked in the stot's by an cantankerous Hippo... He knows these Guys inside out along with Ninja Ben is the longest involved in Relic Knights and knows his shit!<br />
<br />
Why Ben, WHY DO YOU HATE ME!<br />

<br />
<br />
Cy took a brutal small Cadre against me and as it seemed to be the theme of the day also had Cordelia. I was beginning to think the whole multi dimension/universe parallel rift thing was being abused lol<br />
<br />
Cy took Cordelia, Sebastian 'holier than thou' Cross and Navarre Hauer...great...<br />
<br />
Now I got to place objectives first. In a stroke of pure genius (honest - not at all a pleasant mistake)<br />
I got to place my primary in the very tight corner of our cross shaped science station on the board, leaving only an 70-ish mm access point to the rear of the objective. To my joy Simon could not replicate this as the other 3 similar points were well with in the minimum deployment restrictions for his objective..SNEAKY!<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Cy's Shattered Sword</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
The game commenced, Cy had Cordelia in my back field to achieve objectives, but she ended the game in a continuous blocking action with Sophia and Murder Inc. Bretwalda flew straight over to Ninja Cy's closest objective and went idle (oh yes force field activated) this ties down his Hauer from doing anything as he was protecting this objective. So it left Cy with Sebastion slowly traveling across the board and occasionally teleporting places with his troublesome little cypher.<br />
<br />
Meanwhile Static, my cypher was no where to be scene and was being remiss in his job as Esper batter for Magnus! Where was he? That's right readers; he was behind my primary objective that was in the corner...perfectly block of any approach to it, using his indestructibility to deny it to any one.<br />
<br />
Advantage Black Diamond. I started 'infusing' objectives much to Cys, consternation and then Sophia made a break for his Primary objective. We could smell Victory.<br />
<br />
<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Ah an Idle Diamond back. Bretwalda is indestructible!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
Despite the awesome Cadre Ninja Cy had assembled my use of positioning and idling the Diamond back on his secondary objective had shut sown the very real threat his cadre and his superior experience and skill posed to me. <br />
<br />
With that the game ended in a draw. And against Ninja Cy - that's awesome. I will take that to the bank. Good game and lucky I did not get beaten into next week lol<br />
<br />
So what next? Who would come to face me across the table? it was SNOWY! Hes a great chap and we had played in the Northern Cadre ran by Ninja Cy a few months previous, against his Cersi Cadre. In that came he had been painfully unlucky and I had been able to run amuck and white wash him as he just had Esper drought and could not even do anything to do well anything. In a game of luck this can happen to any one.<br />
<br />
So I had a feeling this would be a reckoning. Especially as he brought a cadre with six Suspect 7! Ouch. Not only that...he had brought an impostor Magnus! I could not let this go especially with the abuse of the rift/paralells/universes already apparent in the multiple incursions of Cordelia in the area lol I put all else aside and I embraced the only possible course of action left open to any self respecting Crazed Black Diamond operative...<br />

<br />
Snowy started the game dominating the game as his Suspects 7s coordinated display team went to work covering all objectives, Sophia and Murder Inc. went into zone protection mode but it would be a losing battle. Bretwalda in an attempt to shock and awe went to brutalize the impostor Diamond Corp troopers opposite him.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Sensing a kindred spark on the battlefield Magnus mad out to find it. Find it he did. A dark Shadowy figure opposite him bearing his features... of-course he had only one course of action left open to him... a brief flash matching the flare of the sun lashed out and we had KNIGHT KILL!!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<br />
Insult erased. This heralded the end for the impostor Black diamond incursion as Bretwalda dismembered Corp and Suspects alike.<br />
<br />
Unlucky Snowy! Next time!<br />

<br />
I felt by now that I was for the first time really starting to get to grips with the working of things and subtleties of this awesome game.<br />
<br />
My last game was against one of our Northern Cousins from beyond the wall who had as if in a raiding party of old banded together with his kin's men to travel south to the perilous North East! Good lads, we really appreciate you guys making it and boosting the community.<br />
<br />
So I would again be facing Doctrine commanded by Mark 'Border Marauder' Nisbet.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-mRtDWjv137A300dDXK6rgxOwVlN6Ez_BFvbMqXUPfdN-aghHw2tNPrRMWJEDahYwem9fatTYzUEjWYCO71vUPqME_E6PT-JXVyF5ja42cwNz2Kd_3ukC5_L49IhvraLPcW6q7rmGDIdg/s1600/brian2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-mRtDWjv137A300dDXK6rgxOwVlN6Ez_BFvbMqXUPfdN-aghHw2tNPrRMWJEDahYwem9fatTYzUEjWYCO71vUPqME_E6PT-JXVyF5ja42cwNz2Kd_3ukC5_L49IhvraLPcW6q7rmGDIdg/s1600/brian2.jpg" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<br />
I could not let my self be distracted by pretty scenery again and loose lol<br />
<br />
I had to destroy objectives. Good! Black Diamond like that sort of thing! I went straight for it, Bretwalda and Magnus going straight for both Doctrine secondary objectives. I expected a lot of pain from the Doctrine, And I was not wrong, the Noviates were dug in and threatening to flank Sophia and churning out potential Kill damage, thankfully I was able to shield it all.<br />
<br />
This went on for a turn or two back and forth when out of no where Magnus and Bretwalda reported both objectives destroyed. giving me an almost unbeatable lead. The Doctrine with out me really realizing had been hemmed in and pinned back. Not really able to do anything to shift, me. Sadly they couldn't get kills and were pushed away from my objectives. Game over<br />
<br />

<br />
For weeks now there have been rumblings and anticipation growing as dark clouds of pure awesome potential gather over the ancient Town of ...sorry! Ahem.....Gather over the ancient CITY of York.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcTpkUc4dw0eeMGtp9zMj7kB6JiMggQFlHiiDXO2aJnJ3w_qddvcz4WGoSFrb-h7GYCOBBCMxGxlciD5SV88lhOOKkGQMpBV6HsGmd7SydEhilRc_k0I5n0edM18CLk5ncqzGdNSvio12E/s1600/york.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhcTpkUc4dw0eeMGtp9zMj7kB6JiMggQFlHiiDXO2aJnJ3w_qddvcz4WGoSFrb-h7GYCOBBCMxGxlciD5SV88lhOOKkGQMpBV6HsGmd7SydEhilRc_k0I5n0edM18CLk5ncqzGdNSvio12E/s320/york.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>

<br />
From the hidden corners and holes beings of dark purpose and heroes of bright potential find them selves drawn to the place of testing; 'GUPIES' So much power in one place is indeed a dangerous thing and only one will rise to the top and remain to claim the ultimate prize of<a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/relicknightsuk/898049446923580/?notif_t=group_comment_follow"> NORTHERN CADRE MASTER!</a><br />
<br />
Or...in the real world a load of like minded awesome (not quite heroic types) people got together to get their Esper on! And what a day it was ;)<br />
<br />
Northern Cadre was the first in what we hope to be many many more 'Cadre' events around the UK.<br />
It was an Endless Hunger event. There's a load of eager gamer's out there just waiting for the chance to get their cadres out and throw down against one another to test their metal, more importantly who want to meet others in the community, have a laugh and buzz over the awesome game we have in our hands and all the stuff that will come with it in the future. Having a ton of cool guys you can meet up with and play and chill with is what its all about right? :)<br />
<br />
So after a pleasant drive to york with Ninja Craig, talking about cadre builds, Anime tropes, combos, aethetics and more importantly Alex Louis Armstrong 'Gowan no Renkinjutsushi', we arrived at the venues of Northern Cadre,<br />

What followed was an awesome day of people immersing them selves in the depths and fun of Relic Knights, for me though the day mainly consisted of 'why wont you DIE!, Just fall down, I've put a massive mecha driven axe in your bonnet! Fall down! - oh you have a technique that stops that and make me axe my self in the face...joy!' You get the idea lol<br />

I had the pleasure of seeing there two very old gaming friends from years gone by; Conrad and Andy. Who as luck (or something not at all like luck) would have it I ended up playing.<br />
<br />
<br />
Now like any right minded upright honest to goodness type I had the slickest mercs in the Galaxy; The Black Diamonds. But so did half the field! Impostors all of them (obviously)<br />
<br />
How Would my <a href="https://www.facebook.com/paulscottminiatures?ref=hl">Jade Trouper Corp 'Brutal Delux'</a> of the Black Diamonds fare?<br />

<br />
My First game I had to face Conrad. He had brought a Black Diamond Cadre. This was going to be tough. My Cadre consisted of Leopold, Miss Drake, Bretwalda my Diamond Back and Murder Inc. my Black Dragons.<br />
<br />
Conrad deployed; Suspect 7 (and suspect they bloody are as well!) Some Diamond Corp, Leopold (clearly a civilian cosplay impostor) Sophia Drake and some Black Dragons. He had more board presence and numbers/mobility.<br />
<br />
It got worse from there, I had to kill him, Despite having the 'leet' Black Diamonds, killing stuff is tough and no matter how many burst rifle volleys or plasma axe whirlwinds I throw at him, Conrad's Cadre displayed in buckets the playground equivalent of ''I know you are, but what am I?' by successfully guarding against just about anything I could throw at him whilst his Suspects just ran around achieving objectives as if I wasn't there! Next time!<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZlZKxdOeMtYSoyqpkB4IYsiFnBLkae6_OmI4iRDh3Hd5BHIoOIpzdPic4gif1dtDZaqczv46Tq2jpMFmlLMBmDz4N9UCTKmUCsxEw8lXzoLhAc3M9JnwpIiB93T2qUJZ_oyFbhfU88_VT/s1600/why+wont+you+die.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjZlZKxdOeMtYSoyqpkB4IYsiFnBLkae6_OmI4iRDh3Hd5BHIoOIpzdPic4gif1dtDZaqczv46Tq2jpMFmlLMBmDz4N9UCTKmUCsxEw8lXzoLhAc3M9JnwpIiB93T2qUJZ_oyFbhfU88_VT/s320/why+wont+you+die.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
So,after being shown that my Cadre was not quite as 'all about the brutal' as I thought, we went into there second match. This time I faced 'Snowy'. He had the very speedy and elusive Cerci girls with a little prismatic back up. The confidence level of my guys was not high.<br />
<br />
However in a flash of pure unadulterated AWESOME (random luck) Sophia and Murder Inc (black Dragons) managed to show the Hell's bells there 'lead farmer' technique and sent a wall of unfriendly hurty metal their way and removed them from the universe. A very good start. About time my cadre started making good on the time money and resources spent on their training! Snowy stayed focused and on plan infusing all the things he could, but when Sophia and Murder Inc got Knight Kill on the my 4th turn it was over as I capped out points, game over.<br />

<br />
Confidence restored I went into game 3 and was drawn against Andy.back in the day I had lucked out against Andy so many times in other games I was sure this would be a fun but very tough game especially as was to play the shattered sword.<br />
<br />
From the start it went wrong. I was basically for 5 or 6 turns griefed by a bloody minded out of his depth old man with an exotic pigeon and some shiny armour... Francis Malry...grade A git...<br />
And this is how it went<br />
'I axe you in the face old man, behold the might of Bretwalda!'<br />
<br />
' No, no - I think you'll find you are axing your self in the face chap...' <br />
<br />
'Eat lead old man - Im going to riddle you with rifle fire; Black Dragon style'<br />
<br />
'No, sorry, I think you'll find you are riddling your self Black Dragon Style...SHAZAM!<br />

<br />
Or this at least is how it felt In a few turns he had took 9 HP of Bretwalda, 6 of Sophia and 4 of my Black Dragons. What a horrible horrible person Francis Malory is. I don't know how he sleeps at night...well with the fishes now I presume as Leopold showed him the zappy business end of his glowy staff! KNIGHT KILL BOOM have that!.<br />

Once I have got passed him, Bretwalda and the Murder Inc, took his fancy armoured jet back totting boys to pieces in short order with out loosing a single man.<br />

So when his last remaining misguided do gooder infused his third objective I thought 'no biggie, he has three points, I have 5 and i can freely infuse all the objectives I need or just kill the wounded Navarre Hauer, Andy looked at me rather smugly with a glowing aura of satisfaction as he declare he had won...<br />

<br />
Its been a long time and I apologize for that, life has been very, very hectic but enjoyable.<br />
So this week end just gone (28th -30th) was the UK Games Expo in Birmingham.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHdDjD6TPRxFsXU7Iw4VdaJEyTNC-Awhx9LoH13KHrEjubwOcdpXjNj_b_AZnL3vwC8KdZd_XsbVFuxmVUPKA68BZtSZFeo1RQQNIInXH4ucYr14-yc8TyGO-80_InXfpf8fMYQz8-i3CO/s1600/uk+games.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjHdDjD6TPRxFsXU7Iw4VdaJEyTNC-Awhx9LoH13KHrEjubwOcdpXjNj_b_AZnL3vwC8KdZd_XsbVFuxmVUPKA68BZtSZFeo1RQQNIInXH4ucYr14-yc8TyGO-80_InXfpf8fMYQz8-i3CO/s1600/uk+games.jpg" /></a></div>
<br />
A wretched hive of scum and villainy... Oh no, that's the other one! Sorry...<br />
<br />
A place where all manner of geek, gamer. cos-player, trader and many other things besides gather<br />
to celebrate their love of all things card, miniature and board.<br />
<br />
I was their to work... I know right; work? But some one has to and what better way to meet all the wondrous gamer's and collectors out there? I basically sacrificed my own free time and enjoyment<br />
to ensure that you guys had yours. I love you all that much...<br />

<br />
Yes I was a little excited.<br />
<br />
It was a big one for them; Their first time here in the UK doing Expo,<a href="http://sodapopminiatures.com/super-dungeon-explore/super-dungeon-explore-forgotten-king"> Forgotten king</a> just hitting the shelves after much success and popularity and, my favorite bit, a chance to show off RELIC KNIGHTS. To share it with people to show them its here and to prepare us all for the new wave of awesomeness that is no doubt on the way.<br />

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">So much awesome on its way</td></tr>

<br />
The reception Relic Knights got was great. So many fans who had backed it and let it sit not realising we had such support and a community going getting to see that they could once again pick up and play and be part of something great. And people who had only heard of it or not at all seeing it for the first time and being blown away by the really unique and cool aesthetics and feel of the game.<br />
<br />
It was for me a pleasure to introduce people and reassure people of the great game we have in our hands. To involve them and introduce them to the UK scene for<a href="http://sodapopminiatures.com/game-relic-knights/"> Relic Knights</a> and get them on-board and pointing them in the direction of Relic Knights UK and the likes. A place where they can feel welcome and enjoy their hobby.<br />

I'll take this opportunity to thank the hard core Ninja bunch here and now, they were superb and we couldn't have done it with out them. Working with these guys and Deke and Dave? I am a lucky and spoilt chap.<br />
<br />
As you will remember, I do tend to ramble, I have already took up precious minutes of your time so with out further a do I urge you to check out <a href="https://www.facebook.com/groups/relicknightsuk/">Relic Knights UK</a> (if you have not already) and also to pop over to Ninja Division and marvel at their new game <a href="https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/sodapopminiatures/ninja-all-stars">Ninja All Stars</a> (which will be open to late backers on kick starter!). it looks great.<br />

<span style="font-family: Trebuchet MS, sans-serif;">Like most game each model has a cost with the 'better' models costing more. Each day as a hobbyist/modeler/painter (or however you like to view your self. Pure fried Awesome -o-trons my favorite) there's a constant struggle in our sole. Paint, do hobby or sit on the internet for hours on end 'researching' what you will do.<br />
<div>

<div>
"I'm cataloging up colour schemes!"</div>
<div>
"I'm watching 'source' material"</div>

"I'm 'insert self delusional excuse here' at the minute"</div>

<div>
We all do it, its inescapable. We may even start of with good intentions but inevitably its sets in; the bone idle lethargy kicks in. It may be for different reasons. Personally alot of the time for me it comes from the little voice of doubt I get at the idea of painting something. If I don't paint it etc I cant mess it up. PITIFUL!</div>

Well today I decided to get of my rather ample posterior and started the process of getting my Black Diamonds (the toughest hardcore bunch in any galaxy!) based and prepped to paint and looking sharp. (don't get excited...I haven't got round to painting them but almost!)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Something I personally feel is important in a mini is its actual base. Bases are part of the model and should be treated as such and have time and thought lavished on them. </div>
<div>
I wanted the Black Diamonds to have bases that looked rugged and baron. To reflect their hard nature the far reaches of the galaxy and tough spots they might find them selves in during the course of their contracts. </div>
<div>

Hard Core!</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<span style="text-align: center;">As such I decided to make use of the box of slate I recently found when having my room/office 'tidied' (the wife assures me this is a legitimate thing...) </span></div>
<div>
Slate is pretty easy. Smash/break it up. The more random and irregular the result the better. This will help the effect look more natural. Plus as mentioned I want the whole look to be one of tough ruggedness. <br />

<div>
Soda Pop/Ninja Core have given us brilliant rimmed bases. this lends them to being more 'display' than many of the standard miniature bases out their. This lead me to not wanting to use sand for basing on them. Sanding a base is great normally but adds a layer to the base. I felt that with the RK bases having a lip, the sand layer may rise above it and take away from a sharp clean look and finish.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So instead of sand what to use? Erm... well, we cant just leave the base bare. Well I could... but 'Im not! Dont worry though, there is something ideal for this; Liquid Green Stuff! I know right!? Normally its absolutely useful for nothing. But in my room tidying I also found a pot of the stuff that has started to thicken. Using this to dab onto the base creates a fine level of texture detail that you can also control fairly well. This will help keep the sharp look in regards to the 'display element of the base style and will not be a big thick looking layer of sand taking away from the fine detail and scale of the miniatures/bases.<br />

Hopefully (despite my pitiful Iphone camera skills, sorry) you can see the texture of the liquid green stuff. When this is dry and painted it will/should give a very natural solid ground/earth finish. </div>
<div>
Aa well as that you should be able to see the higher raised 'pointy' areas. This were easy to 'pull' up with a green stuff laden brush. I am very tempted to revisit them and build up on some of them so that I can paint them as emerging Esper.</div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I'll be honest that at the time I knew nothing about Relic Knights short of it being a game by Soda Pop that had been on Kickstarter. I was aware but didn't know how it played or what was good so instead I decided, as I have often recommended to many a new gamer over the years, to pick a Faction I liked the look of/like the sound of. I think if you can find more to like in a Faction than just how good it is you will get more back from the game.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So what were my choices?</span><br />

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So a bunch a Mercenaries with a Private security vibe! Very military looking with the armoured infantry and a tank in the starter box whats not to like? Well Paul had already nabbed this faction so it was an easy decision to dismiss these guys (for now!).</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Nothing personal, but really don't 'feel' this faction. Not really into the aestetics or theme. Based on thrill seekers and speed freaks, girls riding on jetskis, mechanics... a fairly quick dismissal but just personal preference.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><u>Noh Empire</u></span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now a bit like Cerci Speed Circuit I didn't really like the look or feel of this faction initially but having seen them in the flesh at a demo session and look at a few more models online these guys have really grown on me! Maybe if I saw the Speed Circuit girls up close I would appreciate them more?</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The Noh Empire appear to be the daemonic faction in the game and basically quite evil and chaotic. It's good being bad right? Really like the linked ability between hounds and hound master.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Academics, Scholars, Sages and Mystics. I've played magic users and wizard classes in RPG groups and although can be quite fun I think I prefer the warrior type - either tank or damage. The battle box does seem to have a mix of young wizards and a couple of large constructs/beasts. A bit indifferent.</span></div>

<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Now then! Space pirates!! These guys very nearly got picked (not really a spoiler I picked another faction as I've already done the unboxing). So not quite sure what to say that i could quite easily run a Pirate faction, i'd drive Paul nuts YARRRing everytime I popped one of his minions and generally making a nusiance of myself! And thats even before you consider the Cypher is a Parrot!! Oh and the Big Skull headed cannon.</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><u><br /></u></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We have Knights, Squires/men-at-arms in the faction. it's seen as the defenders against the calamity and generally the good/lawful guys. The Battle box has a good mix of basic troops and a couple of armoured knights (which I have since learned have rocket packs!).</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><u>Finally the choice</u></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A little confession. I was leaning towards the Corsairs on a purely aestetic/they're pirates train of thought but after a little discussion with a friend who backed the kickstarter and has played a bit they felt the Corsairs were seen as a weaker option compaired to the Shattered sword who instead have some good defensive abilities. Also the repeated models in the starter box for the Corsairs seemed a bit off for a Faction that should look quite unique and individual. The uniform look is more at home in the Shatteresd Sword or Black Diamond Factions.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So I liked the look of the models, I liked the general background and I like the sound of how they play!</span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So thats kind of how I got to the Shattered Swords!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">What have you chosen? Why did you choose them? </span></div>

<br /></div>
<div>
Just how do you choose your Cadre/faction when exploring a new world/game? I am sure it varies from gamer to gamer. </div>
<div>
The more calculating of you out there, the budding generals and warlords may choose a faction for its tactics its pro/cons or any 'broke' elements you can ruthlessly take advantage of to crush your opponent and bring your dominance to the table top. Others might just like pretty minis ;)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCHqxgj4HNmmGjxmfx6uB09ZKvCwGDrRoGe0lqrOpMSMSJ-s6rYEzdjIk4LVXHeco1-_4oBMc_4s837QCLXjPW7i7ffSqeAhAtH3QANi22tG_kSRRqmo5-uHKyQkw71TKZUDMkCI-D5Bz8/s1600/choices.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjCHqxgj4HNmmGjxmfx6uB09ZKvCwGDrRoGe0lqrOpMSMSJ-s6rYEzdjIk4LVXHeco1-_4oBMc_4s837QCLXjPW7i7ffSqeAhAtH3QANi22tG_kSRRqmo5-uHKyQkw71TKZUDMkCI-D5Bz8/s1600/choices.jpg" height="242" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">but does it have a tank!<br /></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
Me... well Its become pretty simple. Now some may say I am mildly obsessed with, possibly in an unhealthy way, with the wonderful machines of armoured shootiness; TANKS!! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnw26nVLEMjxJIfn6W58N5hknbt6v5BRRcG4z_unueuAaTgVwCptH5HdB6VQXCYAtZC-K4T2fvnxCC_QOGGxtmM4ixjC9XtNSi84KnBxh9Yu_wcnGetI7mJvbBB4jS2_gQYs_8lwkgLQkq/s1600/tank!.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhnw26nVLEMjxJIfn6W58N5hknbt6v5BRRcG4z_unueuAaTgVwCptH5HdB6VQXCYAtZC-K4T2fvnxCC_QOGGxtmM4ixjC9XtNSi84KnBxh9Yu_wcnGetI7mJvbBB4jS2_gQYs_8lwkgLQkq/s1600/tank!.png" height="206" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Question: Does it have a tank in it? </div>
<div>
Answer: Yes?</div>
<div>
Result: WIN</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Sign me up, Im in, job done. Its a no brainer! Mmmm tanks. </div>
<div>
And as if it was meant to be<a href="http://sodapopminiatures.com/relic-knights/black-diamond"> The Black Diamonds</a> Cadre, not only the Universes most ruthless and efficient hard core mercs, have a freekin' dinky tank! And to boot- I can have more than one. Heaven.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggmU0kp17F-d-sehSor16LYFlmV14LMfXeaMpUKN56TM3aKRVu5JU0JBRKJmbv3li5PiREtflRyiNFnvSsfRYFUBIc8OsDthsLfgk0vzt81UpPVBjWVVnP5_P-WCwU1G6cwEjYMX_FxmRz/s1600/black+tank.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggmU0kp17F-d-sehSor16LYFlmV14LMfXeaMpUKN56TM3aKRVu5JU0JBRKJmbv3li5PiREtflRyiNFnvSsfRYFUBIc8OsDthsLfgk0vzt81UpPVBjWVVnP5_P-WCwU1G6cwEjYMX_FxmRz/s1600/black+tank.jpg" height="93" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">WIN</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So its settled, I am now to immerse my self in all things <a href="http://sodapopminiatures.com/relic-knights/black-diamond/black-diamond-battle-box">Black Diamond</a>, no contract to hard no bounty to low! And on a more personal and much more important note - Tim passed over the opportunity to be repeatedly punched in the chops for talking like a pirate too much and chose to field the pretty boy do gooder's that are the <a href="http://sodapopminiatures.com/relic-knights/shattered-sword">Shattered Sword!</a> Pah!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWDTDDcWIzwoUCmP76CmkMJ9cSVmmcM0g-_0FmOMlo3Y8-fcOBrWdykXfnBETs5FB51-o8WzlRIAtDYIMNYQFWKWrvKcafadvWOpIxfQ12q1W4TJgn1O98WZ3iKlxF0K1Wd_0e4z-MR2Vm/s1600/black+diamond+pic+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWDTDDcWIzwoUCmP76CmkMJ9cSVmmcM0g-_0FmOMlo3Y8-fcOBrWdykXfnBETs5FB51-o8WzlRIAtDYIMNYQFWKWrvKcafadvWOpIxfQ12q1W4TJgn1O98WZ3iKlxF0K1Wd_0e4z-MR2Vm/s1600/black+diamond+pic+1.jpg" height="180" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">BOOM</td></tr>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So now I have made my well informed choice... where to start. Well as time goes on and Big Min and I go down the RK road it is becoming increasingly clear that this game is real easy to get into price wise - but- the BEST start in my humble opinion ( I know I know, I am abusing the word humble) the best start for any player is the Battle Boxes. The really do contain all you need to start yourself on the Relic Knights hobby:</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So I got my self the Black Diamond Cadre Battle box. Containing the Mighty Leopold Magnus and his spiteful little Cypher; Static.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Leopold Mangnus - M-Dawg to you!</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Now, I did say that the choice of the Black Diamond was made solely on them having a tank (genuinley on its own a full proof reason) but I fibbed. I had on early peroozing of all things Dark Space, spotted something at least on par with tanks in the range - BIG STOMPY AXE WIELDING ROBOT!! Sold and sold again! </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So to boost my little starter force I got myself the bad boy; DIAMOND BACK. Sweet.</div>
<div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">stompy axe robot<br /></td></tr>

<div>
All the factions have something cool and stompy robot like, after all its pretty much a requirement in the future for all your face stomping needs, But <i><b>my</b></i> big stompy robot has a big choppy plasma axe. Check mate!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Also upon further reading and delving it tunrs out Mr Magnus is a complete and utter sod and fantastic and making things difficult for his enemies. Perfect. That appeals to me very much. Unlucky Big Min! Let the trolling start! ;)</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
So now I guess I have to get them assembled and based and painted up for you all! Pah.</div>

<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">the fun melon</td></tr>

<br />
Or, put more simply, I am really rather excited about Relic Knights; Dark Space Calamity.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVX00bJG6xdH2xVAKL214lK97kDBgagDwAiy9W-eZMfq_mB3otfCqfDwBgRspU-4X-bt-_mOsQAY_EZ9th2lyxIArgx275wGWaUuYfTUpmkx25tjK2IMwPTX1fn5TiuHA8eXrU73rGb5P2/s1600/Relic+Knights+pic.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="199" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjVX00bJG6xdH2xVAKL214lK97kDBgagDwAiy9W-eZMfq_mB3otfCqfDwBgRspU-4X-bt-_mOsQAY_EZ9th2lyxIArgx275wGWaUuYfTUpmkx25tjK2IMwPTX1fn5TiuHA8eXrU73rGb5P2/s1600/Relic+Knights+pic.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
(disclaimer; this post is mainly a happy happy joy joy rant - do not expect ground breaking insight - that's mainly BIG MINS domain! )<br />
<br />
Welcome to Dark Space Comarrr...Comrt...codoara...Comradery, Dark Space Comradery!<br />
As you wold no doubt have guessed by now, Dark Space Comradery is a journey of 2 incurable gaming fantatics, following us through he highs and lows and awesomes of discovery, getting to grips with and full immersion into a new fantastic game.<br />
<br />
Big Min and I have for many a decade been serious card carrying gamers. Once in a while we are still excited and attracted to a game or range that really peaks our interest. And<a href="http://sodapopminiatures.com/game-relic-knights/"> Relic Knights</a> is just that.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://sodapopminiatures.com/">Soda Pop Miniature</a>s have hit it on the head perfectly with this IP. Fun, fast, furious and colourful, it combines a the table top Skirmish platform with elements of CCG mechanics and lashings of Anime/manga imagery that together make a very fresh enjoyable product.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwRPF0Eq0KKrZN6uK3FwRAdwW7uo2ZW3Vix4HTNDHafrtVCvS5ki-2rsliTWQ3D_fHfTYWCgf7oNMpqfjXozaopsak5pbQ4VFqc_tFk6rUN_hqn5VM1hDNCrflAXxmLmmT9cfnEGbbera3/s1600/Dark-Space-Calamity-Esper-Deck.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="279" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwRPF0Eq0KKrZN6uK3FwRAdwW7uo2ZW3Vix4HTNDHafrtVCvS5ki-2rsliTWQ3D_fHfTYWCgf7oNMpqfjXozaopsak5pbQ4VFqc_tFk6rUN_hqn5VM1hDNCrflAXxmLmmT9cfnEGbbera3/s1600/Dark-Space-Calamity-Esper-Deck.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
I've found this combination of things really easy to indulge in, add to that a solid 6 playable and diverse 'factions' to choose from (and diverse they certainly are) on top of a very pleasing buy<a href="http://sodapopminiatures.com/relic-knights/black-diamond"> in price</a> and BOSH - its a gaming win/win..<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggm1wlGb6pPB_zrSb4rAQXwnAKl3Fodc7v69OkncP_KVDfQWDoio0XbG3r2aLe1mEsHd-oTMb06jfUDhElIeO9wzEa_32ilHcFWw9_y713p_PHQ_TkMxPc3RqxjYHbBghyphenhyphenA3hXHkyzolf0/s1600/factions+relic+Knights.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEggm1wlGb6pPB_zrSb4rAQXwnAKl3Fodc7v69OkncP_KVDfQWDoio0XbG3r2aLe1mEsHd-oTMb06jfUDhElIeO9wzEa_32ilHcFWw9_y713p_PHQ_TkMxPc3RqxjYHbBghyphenhyphenA3hXHkyzolf0/s1600/factions+relic+Knights.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
Even with all the above it gets better. As will become clear as the weeks go on (or as some of you may already know) the rules/game play are very easy to pick up but then develop and keep going, there is a lot of depth on the mechanics and faction play once you decide to scratch the surface. There really is a lot to occupy you. Its great for the fast fix gamer and rewarding for those who like to dissect and find all the nuances and tricks. It oozes potential and keeps on giving.<br />
<br />
And then there's the rich well brought together and crafted background and world setting giving you a brilliant backdrop for all your games, combining all the elements of anime/sci-fi/manga that we all recognize and love. How could it be any better?<br />
<br />
Well I hope as time goes on you will join us to find out and feed back to us your impressions and<br />
<br />
Oh Oh!!! wait...there is one more thing... counters/tokens and stats cards...lots of them! Joy.<br />
<br />
<table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">mmmm counters...</td></tr>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">In Relic Knights you can choose to lead one of six factions</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Black Diamond - Mercenaries & Military types</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Ceri Speed Circuit - Racers & Daredevils</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Doctine - Scholars, Mages and Mystics</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Noh Empire - Monsters & Beasts</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Shattered Sword - Gallant Knights</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Star Nebula Corsairs - Pirates- YARRR!!!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And Soda Pop have made it very easy to start and get playing by releasing a Battle Box for each faction. Essentially this is a one player starter set but gives you so much more than some other games Starter sets - you get everything you need to start playing - rules, models, stat cards, Esper cards and counters!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The hardest thing you have to do is choose a Faction!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">At the time of choosing I knew very little about the game so I narrowed my choice down to two based purely on what models I liked the look of - Shattered Sword and Star Nebula Corsairs. Knights and Pirates!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">After a bit more digging and the real fear I would get punched for talking like a Pirate I settled on the Shattered Sword Paladins!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://plarzoid.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/RK-ShatteredSword-Group-1920x1080.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://plarzoid.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2014/07/RK-ShatteredSword-Group-1920x1080.jpg" height="360" width="640" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Paul has settled on the Black Diamond... they have a tank so don't find this very surprising!!</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Keep reading to see whats in the Shattered Sword Paladins Battle Box...</span><br />
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=4776698216218325473" name="more"></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"> <u>So... what's in the Box?</u></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><u><br /></u></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The Battle Box retails at $50/£36 and contains everything you need to get going.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The front of the Box art displays the Faction to which it belongs. So mine has my Questing Knight Francis Malory leading his force of Paragons and Swordsworn. </span></div>

<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Relic Knights is a miniature game so lets take a closer look at the models! We have a sealed bag of plastic models and bases. One thing that should be noted is the plastic appears to be 'Restic' which is a Resin-Plastic mix so plastic glues like polycement probably won't work. Plastic glues rely on a certain amount of Polystyrene to be in the mix (hence the name Polycement!). I find Super Glue to be perfectly suited to gluing these together - and fingers so take care!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The plastic is sprue-less so no need to clip them off before assembly. Just be careful when opening the bag in case any stay pieces fly out (heads can be particularly small!)</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The bagging process doesn't rely on particularly neat clipping on the manufactuers part so you will need a sharp modelling knife to remove the small amounts of flash. Also the gamers nemisis - the mould line!!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A lot of people get worked up over mould lines but lets be honest. ALL models will have them, it's a side effect of the manufacturing process. To make a plastic model two halves of a steel mould come together and the liquid plastic is injected in. If you take a sharp modelling knife and run it along the mould line in a scraping motion the mould line will come straight off. Although like I said this is the gamers nemisis and no matter how vigilant I am some always sneak through!</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">That being said I found these models to have very few mould lines and most easily removed. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">But to use the models we need stats! Also in the Battle Box we get all the Tracker Cards (Stats) and Reference Cards (listing the models abilities) that we need. I wanted to protect my cards so I grabbed a pack of Ultra-Pro Standard deck protectors and put all my cards in them. A little tight but as you can see they fit!</span></div>

<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I then repeated the process with my Esper deck. These cards are likely to see the most man-handling but an added advantage to putting the Tracker cards into protectors is I can use a dry wipe marker to record damage and Held Esper.</span></div>

Instead of rolling dice to see if an ability succeeds a player spends ESPER.</span><br>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">From the background Esper influences all living things and that most beings have a particular affinity to a type or 'colour'.</span><br>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There are six types of Esper and a units affinity is represented by the colour of their Faction symbol on their card.</span><br>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://seethingginger.matchfire.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Esper-Affinities.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://seethingginger.matchfire.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/03/Esper-Affinities.png" height="121" width="320"></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><u>How does Esper work in game?</u></span><br>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Each player has a deck of 42 Esper Cards. It's a standard deck so not like other games where you can build a custom deck. But it does come free in the Faction Battle Boxes (essentially one player starter cadres). </span><br>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Most cards have a big Esper icon (primary Esper type) and a small Esper icon (secondary Esper type). These are called Standard Esper cards and can be played as either 2 Esper of the Primary or 1 Esper of the Secondary.</span><br>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span>
<br>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://i.imgur.com/2EKFY2Nl.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://i.imgur.com/2EKFY2Nl.jpg" height="240" width="320"></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The other two card types are VOID cards (the big black circle that looks like a solar eclipse) and WILD cards (the card with all 6 Esper icons). Void cards are worth 0 Esper and just take up space but the Wild cards can be played as 1 of any Esper (choose when you play it).</span>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span><br>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">At the start of the game each player draws a hand of 5 Esper cards from their own deck, this is kept secret from your opponent and only revealed when they are used. When Esper cards are played they are placed on a discard pile. If/when you draw through your deck you just shuffle the discard deck and start drawing from this.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">So now we have the cards what do we do with them? Each of our models has a stat/tracker card that tells us how good they are at certain things (ranged attacks, defence, movement etc) we'll discuss these cards at a later date. These cards will tell us what abilities we have and what they cost to activate, the cost will be listed by coloured icons and a quantity. We need to pay this cost from our hand to activate the ability. Let's say I'm making a ranged attack with a Green 2 and a Blue 1 - that's what I need to pay to be able to make the ranged attack.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">When you choose to use an ability you will have a value on your stat card. For now let's say I'm making a ranged attack and it has a value of 2. This allows you to immediately draw 2 new Esper cards and add it to your hand.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Next benefit of Esper is activating 'Presses'. A Press is a bonus to the standard ability and has an additional damage or in game effects. The Presses are detailed on a models Reference card and have an additional cost. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">At the end of your turn you may discard any and all cards from your hand and immeadetly draw back up to 5. If you end the turn with more than 5 cards you must discard down to 5. Perfect time to get rid of those Void cards! </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><u>Held Esper</u></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><u><br></u></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Most units can store 'Held Esper' some can even generate it when they activate or by taking the 'Refocus' action. If a unit can store Esper it will have a number of white circles on their card you can mark. When they wish to spend this held Esper they can use it as 2 of any single colour.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><u>Cyphers</u></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">A Cypher is like a pet that is bonded to your Knight (leader/hero). They are pretty much immune to attacks. Their main purpose (it seems) is to generate and transfer Esper. If the Knight can draw line of sight to his/her Cypher they can add 1 held Esper.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><u>Other uses of Esper</u></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">There are a set of cards that list General Actions for each Faction type which may be performed by Initiates and Masters of that type.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">You can use Held Esper to heal objectives.</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Probably others... Will keep reading and learning! ;)</span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><u>So what does this all mean?</u></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This Esper mechanic means you really need to plan ahead and consider what units you will be activating next. If you've lucked out and not drawn the right cards you need yo think of an alternative strategy. Also maybe consider what Esper you might need for defensive abilities before discarding and redrawing. </span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br></span></div>
<div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The ability to generate and transfer held Esper shouldn't be overlooked either as this provides a huge amount of flexibility. But watch out for those Esper Thieves!</span></div>

<div style="text-align: start;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>

Many different systems, square and round bases, fantasy and Sci-Fi so of course we've taken great interest in these guides.</span></span></div>

<div style="text-align: start;">
<span style="background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">And finally the Establish Order Tournament PDF. These events embrace all aspects of the hobby rewarding Painting and Sportsmanship as well as Gaming prowess:</span></span></div>

Although I personally like to see painted armies it would make the most sense as this is just taking off to run an Endless Hunger Tournament so people can play with unpainted Cadres if they so wish.</span></span></div>

</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This blog is going to be all about starting out in the game of Relic Knights, a game by Soda Pop Miniatures. What the game is and how to play it. From the casual gaming at club nights and with friends hopefully progressing into Tournament play.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">We're going to share our demo and practice games, hobby projects and beginners guides as we learn with you in a hope that others will be interested in trying out this great game and together boost the community in the UK!</span></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Relic Knights is a Sci-Fi Skirmish game with <span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto;">a visual </span><span style="-webkit-text-size-adjust: auto; background-color: rgba(255, 255, 255, 0);">aesthetic heavily influenced by Anime and Manga produced by an American company called Soda Pop Miniatures. The game itself doesn't use dice and instead relies on a system quite like mana in MTG to activate abilities. </span></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Coolminiornot did a Game play intro video at GenCon 2012. Check it out as it'll explain all the mechanics for you! It's been stuck into the Useful Web links on the right. --></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: start;">
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The game first appeared on Kickstarter back in September 2012 and suffered some high profile delays. I don't know the ins and outs of this as I didn't know much about Kickstarter back then but we've got the game now! I may look into this in more detail in a future post, also into the whole Kickstarter phenomenon and how it affects the wargaming world. But let's focus on the game for now!</span></div>
